Overview

Maras and Moray are two archaeological sites located near the town of Urubamba in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Peru. Maras is a pre-Colombian site, made up of thousands of salt pans that have been used for salt production since pre-Inca times. Moray is an archaeological site consisting of several large circular terraces carved out of a depression in the earth. Both sites are believed to have been used by the Incas for religious and ceremonial purposes.

Maras is composed of thousands of salt pans, each of which is less than three meters in diameter, filled with salty water from a natural spring. The salt is harvested by evaporating the water in the pans, leaving behind a layer of salt. The salt pans are still in use today, and the salt produced is used in many traditional dishes.

Moray is an incredible archaeological site that consists of several large circular terraces carved out of a depression in the earth. The terraces are believed to have been used by the Incas to experiment with different microclimates, as the terraces were built at different depths and angles, creating different temperatures and conditions for crops.
