Overview

The Inca Jungle Trek A Machu Picchu 4d/3n will take us on an action-packed adventure through the Andes and Amazon jungle. We will start early in the morning from Cusco, being picked up from our hotel. Our journey will include biking down Abra Malaga, trekking through jungle trails, and crossing rivers along the way. We will enjoy stunning mountain views, lush vegetation, and local villages as we travel.

We will explore the Santa Maria and Santa Teresa areas, trying rafting and relaxing in hot springs. Our tour guide will show us hidden paths and explain local culture and traditions. We will hike parts of the Inca jungle trail, passing through coffee plantations and scenic viewpoints. The Vilcanota River will accompany us with its calm waters and natural beauty.

We will reach Aguas Calientes town to rest before visiting Machu Picchu the next day. We will hike to Huayna Picchu and explore the iconic ruins, with bus tickets and train connections included. Our adventure will finish with a scenic train ride back to Cusco, reflecting on jungle landscapes, high mountains, and unforgettable experiences.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Cusco – Abra Málaga – Huamanmarka – Santa María – Pispitayoc

We will meet at our hotel in Cusco at 6:00 A.M. and start the journey toward Abra Málaga at 4,316 meters above sea level. Along the way, we will drive through the Sacred Valley towns of Chinchero, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo. Water bottles and layered clothing will keep us comfortable as we enjoy mountain views and fresh air.

At Abra Málaga, we will get our bikes and helmets and have a safety briefing from the guide. We will ride 50 km downhill through the Puna and Cloud Forest, stopping for photos and small villages. Later, we will visit the Huamanmarka ruins at 1,600 meters and learn about Inca history. We will finish the day with a short hike to Pispitayoc at 1,370 meters and stay overnight in a cozy local house.

After a traditional breakfast, we will learn how the locals roast and prepare coffee. We will start hiking on the ancient Inca jungle trail, the Qhapaq Ñan. Along the trail, we will see coca, coffee, and fruit plantations, while spotting parrots, hummingbirds, and eagles.

We will climb to Huancarcasa viewpoint at 1,750 meters and enjoy panoramic valley views. Then, we will descend to Qellomayo at 1,200 meters for lunch. Afterward, we will hike to Cocalmayo hot springs at 1,450 meters, where we can relax in crystal-clear waters. We will continue to Santa Teresa at 1,515 meters and spend the night there after dinner.

We will start the day with breakfast and hike from Santa Teresa through coffee and coca plantations. The 3-hour hike will take us to Hidroeléctrica at 1,900 meters. Here, we will stop for lunch and a short rest while enjoying the lush Andean-Amazon landscapes.

After lunch, we will follow the train tracks for another 3 hours, passing rivers, forests, and small bridges. In the late afternoon, we will arrive in Aguas Calientes at 1,950 meters, also known as Machu Picchu town. The evening will be free to explore, shop, or rest before our Machu Picchu visit.

After the tour, we will have free time to explore, take photos, or climb Huayna Picchu if tickets allow. Later, we will return to Aguas Calientes to collect our belongings. We will take the train to Ollantaytambo and then a tourist vehicle back to Cusco, ending our adventure through the jungle and mountains.
