After leaving Cusco, you travel along the Longitudinal Highway of the Southern Peruvian Sierra (PE-3s) in the direction of the town of Checacupe, where you take a left to the town of Pitumarca. From here, you continue along a carriage road, passing through a number of rural communities including Ocefina, Japura, and Hanchipacha, until you reach the community of Pampa Chiri, where the road ends and the 5 km hike to the Rainbow Mountain begins.
