We will cross valleys and high passes, reaching altitudes above 5,000 meters above sea level. We will witness the majestic Ausangate Mountain reflecting in pristine glacial lakes. Our guides will explain the history and legends of Ausangate Peru. We will interact with local communities and observe their ancient customs.

We will camp in strategic locations with panoramic views of surrounding mountains. We will hike past turquoise lagoons, snow-capped peaks, and colorful mineral slopes. Our team will prepare nourishing meals to energize us for each day. We will maintain a steady pace suitable for all trekkers in our group. 

We will experience the natural wonders of Ausangate Mountain Peru while learning about local wildlife. We will see vicuñas, llamas, and alpacas grazing in highland meadows. Tour Plan

Day 1: Cusco – Ocongate – Tinqui – Upis

We will leave our hotel at 6:00 AM. and drive to Tinki, a traditional Andean village. We will stretch our legs and observe local clothing, customs, and small markets. Then we will continue one hour on dirt roads to Upispampa, the trailhead.

We will enjoy a hearty Andean breakfast and meet our muleteers and support team. We will begin the trek through remote villages, small streams, and rolling meadows. We will arrive at Upis camp in cozy private cabins.

 In the afternoon, we may visit Laguna Upis, a turquoise lake at the foot of Ausangate Mountain Peru. We will return for tea and a warm dinner under the stars.

Day 1 Statistics

  • Highest altitude: 4,432 meters above sea level (Upis camp)

Day 2: Upis – Puca Cocha – Ananta

We will start early with coca tea and breakfast. We will climb to Paso Arapa (4,958 meters above sea level ) and descend to Laguna Pucacocha for lunch. In the afternoon, we will hike to Paso Pucacocha (5,000 meters above sea level)  and enjoy stunning views of glaciers and multicolored lakes. We will descend to Ananta camp, setting up tents for the night.

Day 2 Statistics

  • Distance traveled:   14 km (8-9 hours trekking)
  • Highest altitude:  5,000 meters above sea level (Paso Pucacocha)
  • Lowest altitude: 4,700 meters above sea level (Ananta camp)
  • Route:Upis – Paso Arapa – Laguna Pucacocha – Paso Pucacocha – Ananta
  • Difficulty level: Hard

Day 3: Ananta – Montaña Arcoíris – Alqatari

We will wake at 4:00 AM and eat breakfast before ascending Paso Surini (5,051 meters above sea level). From there, we will see the first sunrise glimmers on Montaña Arcoíris. We will reach the mountain base early to avoid crowds and take photographs. Afterward, we will descend to Alqatari, passing Andean communities and spotting free-roaming llamas and alpacas.

Day 3 Statistics

  • Highest altitude:  5,051 meters above sea level  (Paso Surini)
  • Lowest altitude:4,420 meters above sea level (Alqatari camp)

Day 4: Alqatari – Paso Palomani – Surapampa

We will cross the highest point of the trek, Paso Palomani 5,300 meters above sea level, at the base of Ausangate Mountain Peru. We will marvel at canyons, glaciers, and snow-capped peaks. We will descend to Huchuy Phinaya for lunch, then continue to Surapampa camp. The site features rocky formations and is ideal for spotting wild chinchillas basking in the sun.

Day 4 Statistics

  • Highest altitude: 5,300 meters above sea level (Paso Palomani)
  • Lowest altitude:4,591 meters above sea level (Surapampa camp)
  • Route:  Alqatari – Paso Palomani – Huchuy Phinaya – Surapampa

Day 5: Jampa – Pacchanta – Cusco

We will begin with a three-hour hike to Paso Jampa (4,900 meters above sea level) to see the famous Seven Lakes of Ausangate Peru. We will descend to Pacchanta for a farewell lunch and a relaxing soak in natural hot springs. Afterward, we will board our private transport back to Cusco, arriving around 6:00 PM.

1. How difficult is the Ausangate Trek 5 Days?

 We will face moderate to hard difficulty. The trek includes high passes over 5,000 meters above sea level. Good fitness is required.

2. Do we need acclimatization before the trek?

Yes, we will need at least 2–3 days in Cusco before starting. Acclimatization reduces altitude sickness risks.

3. What is the highest point on the trek?

 We will reach Paso Palomani at 5,300 meters above sea level. This is the highest and most challenging section.

4. Will we see Rainbow Mountain during the trek?

 Yes, we will visit Montaña Arcoíris (Rainbow Mountain) on Day 3. We will enjoy its colorful mineral formations.

5. What type of accommodation will we have?

We will sleep in tents, cabins, or mountain refuges depending on the location. We will provide all camping gear.

6. Can we carry our personal luggage?

No, horses and mules will carry up to 6 kg per person in a duffel bag. We will only carry a daypack.

7. Are hot springs included in the trek?

Yes, we can visit Pacchanta hot springs on the last day. Entrance is optional and not included in the price.

8. When is the best season for Ausangate Trek Peru?

We will find the best weather from May to September. Dry season offers clearer skies and safer trails.

9. Will we see wildlife during the trek?
