Inca Trail Treks
The Salkantay and Inka Trail Trek is a stunning multi-day journey through the Andes Mountains in Peru. Starting from Mollepata town, it takes you along ancient Inca paths, incorporating segments of the Salkantay and Inka Trail, and culminates with a visit to Machu Picchu – one of the world’s most iconic archaeological sites. Along this trek, travelers will explore some of the region’s most breathtaking landscapes: snow-capped peaks, lush rainforest valleys, glacial lakes, and winding rivers.
On day one, travelers will meet their guide in Cusco before setting off into the Sacred Valley towards Soraypampa town, where they will camp for the night. The following morning they will begin their ascent up to Salkantay Pass at 4500m above sea level—an incredible feat! After summiting Salkantay Pass and admiring its majestic views, hikers then make their descent down to Huayracmachay town.
Then, they will climb to Collpapampa, where they will spend the night. From here on out it’s time for exploration as hikers traverse through cloud forests filled with exotic wildlife before making camp near Santa Teresa hot springs, where they can relax after a long day of hiking.
Travelers reach the quaint town of Aguas Calientes, which signifies a pause in their trekking journey, as access to Machu Picchu from here is typically by train or bus. However, this unique 6-day adventure continues the next day when participants leave Aguas Calientes and travel to KM 104 to embark on the final leg of the renowned Salkantay and Inka Trail. After several hours of hiking, they will reach the Sungate of Machu Picchu, offering their first breathtaking glimpse of the ancient site from a vantage point like no other.
From the Sungate, hikers will descend to Aguas Calientes by bus, where they will spend the night, recharging for their full day visit to Machu Picchu the following morning. This visit provides ample time to explore the stunning architecture and spiritual allure of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, immersing themselves in its beauty and mystery that has enchanted visitors globally for centuries. After a day spent wandering among the awe-inspiring ruins, the group will return to Cusco, carrying with them memories of a lifetime.
Salkantay Mountain, a towering peak in the Vilcabamba range, serves as a stunning backdrop to one of Peru’s most revered pathways, the Salkantay and Inka Trail. Rising to 6,271 meters (20,574 feet), Salkantay is the highest point on the Salkantay and Inka Trail, a route historically and spiritually significant to the people of Cusco and adventure seekers worldwide.
The Salkantay and Inka Trail offers an alternative yet profoundly beautiful approach to Machu Picchu, differing from the more frequented Inca Trail. This route showcases the raw, natural beauty of the Andean landscape, with Salkantay Mountain as its crown jewel. Trekking the Salkantay and Inka Trail provides a unique opportunity to experience the diverse ecosystems of Peru, from lush cloud forests to stark high-altitude terrains.
Historically, Salkantay has been regarded as a sacred mountain, or “Apu,” by local communities. It plays a vital role in Andean cosmology, deeply intertwined with the local culture and traditions surrounding Cusco. The Salkantay and Inka Trail, passing this sacred peak, offers trekkers a spiritual journey through spaces that have been revered for centuries.
Moreover, the Salkantay and Inka Trail serves as a critical economic component for local communities, offering employment and supporting sustainable tourism practices. As travelers explore the Salkantay and Inka Trail, they contribute to the preservation of the cultural and natural heritage that makes the region so special.
The Salkantay and Inka Trail is not just a route but a journey through history, culture, and some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Andes, with Salkantay Mountain standing guard over this timeless trail.

Machu Picchu is a 15th century Incan citadel located in the Peruvian Andes. It was built by the Inca Empire, an ancient South American civilization that flourished from 1400 to 1532, and it is one of the most recognizable archaeological sites in the world. The ruins are believed to have been constructed as a royal estate for Emperor Pachacuti around 1450 and served as a spiritual retreat for him and his family. Machu Picchu has become one of Peru’s top tourist attractions due to its stunning mountain views and fascinating history.
The site consists of various terraced hillsides with stone walls, temples, stairways, plazas, fountains, and other structures made out of granite blocks carved without mortar or metal tools. Many believe that Machu Picchu was used primarily as a religious center or pilgrimage destination rather than a fortress or defensive structure since there are no signs of fortifications on its grounds. Additionally, many theories suggest that it may have been part of an elaborate astronomical calendar used by ancient cultures in order to track celestial events such as solstices and equinoxes.
If you have previously purchased a ticket to Huayna Picchu mountain or Machu Picchu mountain, our staff will guide you to the respective entrance. After the tour, we will return to Aguas Calientes. Once we get there, you will have free time to have lunch at a local restaurant. The cost of the lunch is not included in the tour price.
In the afternoon, we will board a train to Ollantaytambo town. Once we arrive there, our personnel will transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco, where you will be arriving around 10:00 pm.
